MAQ Attack at The Frist

Anti-You employs all the misinterpretation we can think of ourselves. Using Kara Walker, as inspiration, teens at The Frist Center for the Visual Arts make there own silhouettes based on all the characteristics that we project on ourselves or what others assign to us. Silhouettes became popular in the mid-18th century as an affordable alternative to the portrait miniature.  Since the late 18th century silhouette artist have made scenes with contrasting cutouts. A movie of these Anti-You characters move through a scene of rural land to city buildings, showing the possibilities of all realms, be it reality or false.  Being aware of our perceptions and those we let development around us.
